Hammer of Misfortune "Dead Revolution" Review

Walking into this review I was unsure what to expect from this band, but I’m glad I picked this up to show you what it’s like. Hammer of Misfortune and their latest release “Dead Revolution” is a very inspired album to say the least, I’ll let you know right now this won’t overly delve into any of the songs, it’s just an outline of what to expect so you can listen for yourself and tell me why I’m right or wrong.

As noted above, the album is highly inspired. From beginning to end you can hear the slow groove of Black Sabbath, the raw power that comes from Deep Purple, the progressive tone that comes from Yes and even a hint of The Beatles sprinkled in here and there. Each song sounds unique in its own way from how it blends the different sounds and which sound dominates each song and what sound(s) are used to give the song more flavour. That being said, “Days of 49” deserves a specific mention; this song is almost like Hammer of Misfortune’s own version of “Piano Man”. It’s a slow song that has a lot of focus on keys, and introduces you to everyone in the area, much like “Piano Man” does, it’s quite unique in its own sense and that’s why it deserves its own mention.

I know this is a shorter one, but it’s easy and hard to explain this album, it’s unique, but it’s also familiar. There’s so much inspired sound blended together that it makes its own sound, you have to listen to it yourself to really understand it yourself. Hammer of Misfortune’s new album “Dead Revolution” is highly recommended to any old school Heavy Metal fans, Metal Blade Records has got you covered with this album!

75/100
