Interview with Maurizio Iacono of Ex Deo

Hey, how are you?
Good thank you

After a brief Hiatus, Ex Deo are back with “The Immortal Wars”, how does it feel to be releasing the bands third album?

Great, we needed time off to reflect and make this come back to life with a strong album and I think we accomplished that .

You’ve still got about a month before the official release, will you be releasing anymore singles from the album?

Only “ THE RISE OF HANNIBAL “  and “ THE ROMAN”

Its and album made for the fans , we are not trying to gain more interest by releasing too much , whatever happens, happens ..

Of course, Ex Deo are based around Roman history, but what stories does this album follow specifically?

this album is about the second Punic war , an important war that would change the course of the earth ,  two of the greatest generals conducted a strategic warfare that would influence military tactics for generations all the way to our modern day

A big change that could be seen for this album is the inclusion of Clemen Wijers doing the orchestration for this album. How did this help the album to flourish?

he’s a great guy and had great talent , I thought his influence would be necessary to make the album achieve what it needed too as far as grandiose and intricate orchestral score

What was working with someone who has more of a horror based background like?

Horror is what he loves but his spectrum is big and vast , so he understands the different atmospheres we needed to create in order to achieve the vision of this album

Were there any other major differences in recording this album?

it came together smoothly ,  was a very cool journey , we just were more strict then ever on the  musical direction so it embodied the true nature of the albums ideology and feel

Obviously you’re a busy guy, trying to front both Ex Deo and Kataklysm, but are you guys looking into an Ex Deo tour?

There's no plans for EX DEO to tour for the moment, well see if that changes , Kataklysm remains our biggest priority

What do you think the defining songs from this album are? What songs are you most interested in having people hear?

you need to hear it all because its a concept album , you could almost press play and the whole album could be a long story holding itself together

What songs do you think will have the best live sound and most audience interaction?

Rise of Hannibal , The Romam, Ad Victoriam ,  Crossing of the Alps

Last but not least, any hints you can give away about when the next song will be released or when some tour dates might be announced?

no tour dates for now, although we have interest  we are just happy to release this album for now .

Thank you very much for your time, I hope to see you on the road soon!

thank you !
